Appreciation Month

May is appreciation month.  There are so many days in appreciation of people it's hard to keep track!  The big ones are Children's Day, Parents' Day, and Teachers' Day.  For Parents' Day, we ate dinner with Jack's family at a duck restaurant on a mountain/big hill near Jack's mom's house.  It was a lot of fun sitting outside and eating.  Jack's sister, Eunhye, brought a cake and the kids really enjoyed that part of the meal.Teacher's Day this year was a week filled with student-hosted lunches and gifts.  Professor Oh Yongnok and I were treated to lunch by a few of our theory MA students. We had a great meal at a campus outside eatery, then headed to a coffee shop for some cake and coffee.  The students all banded together and got me a tea set, and Professor Oh a bottle of Mokgeolli.  Perfect and thoughtful gifts!  The boys had almost a week of Childrens' Day celebrations.  They first learned some songs at school and got a t-shirt (wearing above) as a gift from the teachers.  Then, they donned the t-shirts for a school picnic the day before Childrens' Day (schools are closed on Childrens' Day) and prepared their own snacks (above).  On the actual day, SNU hosted some games for faculty and their families at the gym.  The kids had a great time as did the adults.  Below, Oliver is balancing on the cloth bridge, we raced to blow up balloons and fill a giant plastic bag with them, and Dahin sprints in a relay race with her 'blue team.'  Oliver and I were on the white team, while Ronan, Dahin, and Jack were on the blue team.  Jack is convinced the blue team won, but he's wrong.  ; - D  That evening, the community in the faculty apartments came together and had a barbecue.
